Context: Social platform connecting Gen Z through dinners in private homes
The night it started
My best friend and I sat down one evening and talked about what we were missing in our life. We landed on the same answer, more real friendships. The kind you can share a life with.
We weren't the only ones. Our whole generation is more connected than ever and lonelier for it. So we brainstormed, badly and for hours, and somewhere in that Miro board one line survived:
Meet three strangers around your corner and cook together. Want in?
That was it. We both love cooking and we both love the conversations that only happen after the second course. Everything around us was getting more isolated, and this hit the nerve.
I went home, picked up my phone and posted a TikTok about cooking with strangers. It went viral. Within 24 hours: thousands of comments, likes and shares. In the next 12 hours we built the entire website, I did the branding, and we shipped everything we had.
Two more videos went viral after that. The waitlist was oversubscribed before we had served a single dinner. 500+ people waiting for a seat at a table that didn't exist yet.

What we built
Five or six strangers show up at a private home. We deliver the groceries, they cook, and they play the Bloom Game we designed ourselves. You just need to show up became our mantra. Everything else was our job.
We handpicked the first 20 dinners ourselves, and for the first 10 we sat at the table. Then we let the system do the work. We built a matching algorithm that put strangers together, and it scaled us to five dinners running at the same time on a Friday night somewhere in Munich.
I owned brand, growth and sales end to end. Positioning, visual identity, content, community and the entire customer-facing experience.
The acquisition engine ran entirely on my own TikTok and Instagram accounts. Everything was bootstrapped. I reverse-engineered what actually went viral into a repeatable hook system and applied it across many reels. The funnel was automated with ManyChat and AI workflows, so my content turned people who were watching into people who were paying. I built partnerships with creators, brands, media and venues and turned my own network into a distribution channel.

Where it broke
Demand was never the problem. After 30+ dinners and hundreds of paying customers, we always had more people wanting a seat than seats to give.
The bottleneck was hosts. Retention on the supply side stayed thin no matter how hard we marketed, and at some point we had to be honest with ourselves. The business model wasn't strong enough to carry the vision we had for it.
So we closed the chapter. Not because it failed, but because we had learned what it could and couldn't become.

What it left
A true story of two best friends trying to build something they were missing in the world. And some numbers.
12k followers across my accounts. A community of 2,000 people. 1,000+ paying customers and four-figure MRR, with zero paid spend. Reels past 100k views.
1st place at SCE Incubation, out of 55 ventures, judged by VCs and angel investors. Selected for the City of Munich's Impact Incubator out of 100+ applicants.
And the first time I felt real demand. Virality, pull, people showing up for something that mattered. I know now what it feels like to build from 0 to 1. To post consistently, listen to what the community actually wants, and rethink how to give it to them every week.
What I really learned is that the pain point is real. We are isolating ourselves more and more, and people are craving authenticity, real conversations, actual depth. I felt it myself, and I saw it at every table we set.
But you can't solve a lonely generation from the outside. You can build the room, deliver the groceries, put the right people around one table. The rest is work every individual has to do themselves.
And hey, it worked. People showed up and made friends. It just wasn't the mission we wanted to spend the next ten years on.
So I'm on a new path now, carrying everything Bloom taught me. It was a wild ride, and I'm grateful it was my first real success in my own venture.
